Modern computing sucks By Edward Willis (http://encw.xyz) Published Dec/5/2022 The more one knows about modern computer hardware and software the harder they are to like. Bloat, unwarranted complexity, and computationally wasteful programs abound. Planned obsolescence of hardware and software fueled by the laziness and stupidity of programmers. In this day, with the chip fabrication technology we have, just about everything one does day to day on a computer should compute instantaneously. Batch computation of large datasets, necessarily expensive algorithms and computations, and the like, are of course another issue altogether. Look at Signal Messenger, or Discord. Why does it take hundreds upon hundreds of MiB to run a chat program? Even the modern hardware isn't purely better: USB and its polling is slow compared to the interrupts of PS/2 devices. We've come forward in some ways, but the industry as a whole has lost its edge, and its soul. Hardly anyone programs with their eye on a beautiful output. It's all about what saves the programmer from having to learn to do his job properly.
